Black Grace Dance Company
Boston Debut!
April 17 & 18, Tsai Performance Center
Thursday | 7:30pm
Friday | 8pm

Black Grace Dance Company is pure dynamism. Dancing with the force of warriors, they draw audiences into a vigorously affecting ritual. The source of the Company’s exhilarating blend of Samoan, Maori and contemporary dance is director-choreographer Neil Ieremia, who was raised in New Zealand by Samoan parents. With the astonishing variety of expression at Ieremia’s command—Samoan slap dancing, stomping, beautiful ensemble singing, riveting modern dance—it’s little wonder Black Grace Dance Company has exploded onto the international dance scene.

"The New Zealand-based all-male troupe can rock the house with thundering stomps, macho body slaps in syncopated rhythms, and acrobatics that send the dancers crashing into one another. Yet they can just as convincingly sing in sweet three-part harmony, accompanying their vocals with gestures that softly curve
and dip."
