He has been called the greatest choreographic talent of his age. Mark Morris continues to create brilliant, inventive, witty, surprising, and vital work. Perhaps the most elemental thing that makes Mark Morris an exceptional choreographer is his deep and personal understanding of music, which his work illuminates with exquisite detail. Morris is devoted to music as few choreographers are, which is why he insists, when possible, that live music—played brilliantly—be part of each performance.

The long history of the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Celebrity Series began under the leadership of Celebrity Series President Martha H. Jones. In honor of her 25 year anniversary with the organization, the Celebrity Series has commissioned a new work by choreographer Mark Morris. The program will also include the Boston premieres of Empire Garden and Excursions.
