Orion String Quartet with
David Shifrin clarinet
Saturday, November 12, 8pm, NEC’s Jordan Hall
The Orion String Quartet’s subtlety and precision, passionate exploration and wit are the reasons this foursome has emerged as one of the top quartets on the chamber music scene. Joining the Orion is virtuoso clarinetist David Shifrin, one of only two wind players to win the distinguished Avery Fisher Prize. Program will feature the Boston premiere of Mark Neikrug’s Clarinet Quintet, co-commissioned by Celebrity Series of Boston.
“The Orion’s performances were illuminating, marked not only by abundant sensitivity and clarity, but also by a sense that the music was being explored anew.”
—Cleveland Plain Dealer
“Mr. Shifrin lovingly molded the concerto’s wistful melodies and dazzled in its exuberant flurries.”
—The New York Times
