A thought-provoking, multi-faceted, and compelling artist, pianist Jeremy Denk joins with Stefan Jackiw, one of his generation’s most significant violinists, to play Charles Ives’ complete sonatas for violin and piano in a fresh, re-imagined format. This unique program features an engaging introduction
to Ives by Jeremy Denk, who speaks of the penchant for nostalgia in Ives’ work drawn from church hymns, patriotic songs, and marches. To illustrate, the five singers of Hudson Shad will perform various hymns and songs before the performance of the sonata in which they are quoted.

“Mr. Denk’s playing exuded affinity for Ives and vivid imagination. Mr. Jackiw,
deftly balancing fervor and elegance, beautiful tone and earthy colorings, proved
a comparably inspired Ivesian on this exciting night.”
