This concert marks the fourth Celebrity Series performance for Thomas Hampson; he made his Celebrity Series debut in 1992 and was seen most recently in 2013 with the Jupiter String Quartet. This performance marks the Celebrity Series debut for Luca Pisaroni.
Baritone Thomas Hampson returns for his fourth Celebrity Series appearance alongside his son-in-law, the acclaimed bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni, to perform operatic and Broadway favorites in No Tenors Allowed! Thrilling, thunderous low notes reign supreme when they perform selections by Mozart, Verdi, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and more.
Thomas Hampson, America’s foremost baritone, has received many honors and awards for his captivating artistry and cultural leadership. Honored as a Metropolitan Opera Guild “Met Mastersinger” and inducted into both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Gramophone’s “Hall of Fame,” Hampson is one of the most respected and innovative musicians of our time. With an Opera repertoire of more than 80 roles sung in all the major Opera houses of the world, his discography comprises more than 170 albums, which include multiple nominations and winners of the Grammy Award, Edison Award
Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni has established himself as one of the most charismatic and versatile singers performing today. Since his debut at age 26 with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival, led by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Pisaroni has continued to bring his compelling artistry to the world’s leading opera houses, concert halls, and festivals.
In addition to his extensive opera and concert appearances, Pisaroni has presented critically lauded recitals at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Teatro de la Zarzuela, the Concertgebouw, Edinburgh Festival, Vienna’s Musikverein, the Vancouver Recital Society, and the Dortmund Konzerthaus, among other prominent international venues.
