A new force in Nordic world music is the young Scandinavian trio, Dreamers’ Circus. Contemporary and innovative in their approach, the trio draws inspiration from the deep traditions of folk music in the region and reshapes them into something bright, shiny, and new. Their art embraces music from Denmark and Sweden as well as Iceland, Finland, and the far reaches of the windswept Faroe Islands. Dreamersʼ Circus are Nikolaj Busk on piano and accordion, Ale Carr on Nordic cittern, and Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, also of the Danish String Quartet, on violin. The ensemble has won five prestigious Danish Music Awards and frequently collaborates with the Danish String Quartet and the Copenhagen Philharmonic.

Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen unveils the group dynamic to RootsWorld saying, “Dreamers' Circus is a modern democracy. We have no real bandleader, and everybody contributes both off and on the stage. When we perform, we probably have a mindset closer to a professional chamber music group than a typical folk music group. By that I mean we try to make the three instruments melt into one united sound. We respect and trust each other deeply, both musically and personally, and that gives us a strong confidence, both as individuals and as a group.”

“This is music that paints images in your mind, that fires the imagination.”
