Emerson String Quartet

NEC's Jordan Hall

Do not miss your chance to be there when the Emerson String Quartet takes the stage at Jordan Hall for their final concert for Boston audiences with Celebrity Series.

The Quartet has maintained its status as one of the world’s premier chamber music ensembles for more than four decades, and across 26 appearances on the Celebrity Series. Time and time again, “the Emerson has staked its claim to being the one indispensable quartet in a world that is constantly creating more, excellent ensembles,” (Newsday). The Quartet has made more than 30 acclaimed recordings and has been honored with nine Grammy Awards (including two for Best Classical Album), three Gramophone Awards, the Avery Fisher Prize, and Musical America’s “Ensemble of the Year” award.

The performance program references the recordings that have become the “greatest hits” in their storied career. Selections will be drawn from their Grammy Award-winning Deutsche Grammophon recordings of quartets by Bartók, Shostakovich, and Beethoven. The poignant Lyric for Strings by George Walker—the first Black composer to win a Pulitzer Prize for Music—sets the tone as we reflect on the beauty that this group has shared with us over the years and bid them a fond farewell.

This performance also has a streaming option January 24- January 30.
