Accommodating Lie is Rafael Palacios’ latest full-length work for Sankofa Danzafro, the Colombian dance company that thrilled Celebrity Series audiences in 2018. One hour in length, Accommodating Lie showcases seven dancers with live music (drums/ native flute, marimba, and voice). The piece seeks to dismantle stereotypes, clichés, and falsehoods about the black body and what it means to be of African descent. The Sankofa dancers embody decades of slavery and overt racism, rewriting history from the perspective of colonized Colombians.
