Charles Lloyd & the Marvels and Lucinda Williams (2018-19)

Berklee Performance Center

Featuring Bill Frisell, Reuben Rogers, Eric Harland, and Greg Leisz

Saxophonist Charles Lloyd has a legendary history in the music world, and could certainly be in a position to slow down and rest on his laurels—but that is not his way. But looking back has never been of great interest to this tender warrior; this seeker of beauty and truth. “Go forward,” is his motto, as he keeps shifting to a higher, well calibrated gear. In November 2016, Charles Lloyd and the Marvels recorded a powerful version of Bob Dylan’s Masters of War with singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams. The success of that single led to this remarkable, unique collaboration and tour, which includes guitarist Bill Frisell, pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz; bassist Reuben Rogers; and drummer Eric Harland.

“Mr. Lloyd has come up with a strange and beautiful distillation of the American experience…part abandoned and wild, part immensely controlled and sophisticated.”
