Summer 2022: Nebulous Quartet, featuring Kely Pinheiro

Co-hosted in partnership with Mission Hill Arts Festival's "Interconnections" summer series. Nebulous Quartet, led by cellist/vocalist Kely Pinheiro, is a young string quartet comprised of members with diverse cultural backgrounds that has established a sound all its own. Each member’s distinct musical identity emerges within the improvisational arrangements and compositions they create.

Summer 2022: Tyson Jackson Quartet featuring Sasha Berliner

Co-hosted in partnership with Mission Hill Arts Festival's "Interconnections" summer series. Versatile Boston-based drummer, composer, and educator Tyson Jackson appears with his Quintet in a performance featuring red-hot vibraphonist Sasha Berliner. The performance closes with an audience Q&A!

Summer 2022: Gregory Groover, Jr.
Negro Spiritual Songbook, a modern exploration of traditional Black American sacred music

Co-hosted in partnership with Mission Hill Arts Festival's "Interconnections" summer series. Tenor saxophonist Gregory Groover, Jr. makes his Series debut as a bandleader with this concert, which features his ongoing exploration of Negro Spirituals. Groover and his working band use original arrangements and jazz instrumentation to interpret these enduring anthems of hope, faith, and resilience for our historical moment.

One of the jazz world’s most respected and original voices, Maria Schneider brings her accomplished and cohesive ensemble to Sanders Theatre for the local premiere of Data Lords, her most ambitious project to date and a profound statement on the tension between our dystopian digital environment and the natural world.

The Creation

Chucho Valdés’ The Creation takes audiences through the Regla de Ocha story of creation from the Afro-Cuban religious practice Santería. This evening-length suite engages with powerful cultural rituals and explores how Valdés has woven his heritage throughout his extraordinary career.

Constant innovation and reinvention define the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Now in his 12th season as music & artistic director, Gustavo Dudamel’s vision and creative direction for the organization has led the New York Times to herald the Los Angeles Philharmonic as “the most important orchestra in America—period.”

Joining Dudamel for the local premiere of a newly commissioned work by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz is the young and electrifying Spanish violinist María Dueñas in her Boston debut.

Anne Sofie von Otter, mezzo-soprano, and Kristian Bezuidenhout, piano

Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, universally recognized for her versatility and superlative skill at conveying a work’s textual meaning through her insightful musical interpretation, performs works by Schubert and Fanny Mendelssohn, as well as songs from her native Sweden.

Kristian Bezuidenhout, one of today’s most notable and exciting keyboard artists, collaborates with von Otter to create an atmosphere where subtlety, detail, and delicacy showcase the interplay of text, music, meaning, and drama in a compelling and unforgettable recital.

Jessica Vosk
My Golden Age

Jessica Vosk, star of Wicked’s second national tour, makes her Boston concert debut with a program she premiered at a sold-out Carnegie Hall. In My Golden Age, Vosk pays homage to the iconic voices who inspired her—Bette Midler, Linda Ronstadt, Judy Garland—and to composers Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, and Leonard Cohen.

Kirill Petrenko, conductor Noah Bendix-Balgley, violin  

Kirill Petrenko makes his eagerly awaited Boston debut as music director of the Berliner Philharmoniker in what promises to be a highlight of the new season: a truly unmissable event.

Petrenko leads the orchestra in three pieces, culminating in a sweepingly dramatic, richly textured work that he deeply champions: Korngold’s Symphony.

Requiem: Fire in the Air of the Earth Co-commissioned by Celebrity Series  

In Requiem: Fire in the Air of the Earth, a new work co-commissioned by Celebrity Series, Kyle Abraham poignantly reimagines Mozart’s Requiem. This collaboration unites electronic music pioneer Jlin’s extraordinary sense of rhythm with Abraham’s deep grounding in classical ballet, hip-hop, modern dance, and street dance for a powerful and unforgettable experience.
