Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez

Berklee Performance Center

Pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, born into a prominent Cuban musical family, trained in classical conservatories, while percussionist Pedrito Martinez honed his deeply rooted Afro-Cuban folkloric percussion and vocal techniques on the streets of Old Havana.

Despite their different beginnings, both rose to fame by dazzling audiences worldwide, earning praise from jazz and pop culture tastemakers like Wynton Marsalis and Quincy Jones. Their 2019 album Duology, produced by Jones, showcased their electrifying chemistry, as did their debut Celebrity Series performance that same year.

Now, after years of growth and artistic evolution, Rodriguez and Martinez take center stage for a high-energy evening that pulses with the spirit of Cuban musical traditions.

“What makes this duo completely different is that I came from the folkloric side and Alfredo came from the classical side. You put those things together and you come out with an extraordinary and different sound. ”
