Anaïs Mitchell + Bonny Light Horseman

Berklee Performance Center

Bonny Light Horseman is a new folk super-group comprising Anaïs Mitchell, an artist dubbed “one of the greatest songwriters of her generation” by NPR and best known as the creator of Broadway smash hit and 2019 Tony Award–winning Best Musical Hadestown; Eric D. Johnson, well known for his long-running rock band Fruit Bats and stints with The Shins; and Josh Kaufman, a multi-instrumentalist and first-call producer whose associations range from Bob Weir to The National to Taylor Swift. Together they revitalize traditional folk songs (including some inspired selections that date back even further than you’re probably imagining), and re-interpret them for modern times and sensibilities. The result is something both ageless and new, beautiful little windows into history through the minds and hearts of modern devotees to song-craft. This standout trio will perform one of our only purely “folk” offerings of the season, so make sure to catch their show at the Berklee Performance Center.

“A national treasure; one of our great modern singer-songwriters.”

“…their goal: to give ancient songs a contemporary twist, and to surround the timeless feelings expressed in those songs with drop-dead gorgeous string and vocal arrangements. From top to bottom, Bonny Light Horseman accomplishes those goals.”
