Camille A. Brown & Dancers
I AM

Cutler Majestic Theatre

Fast Facts

  • Camille A. Brown has received five Tony Award nominations, as a director and choreographer, most recently for Gypsy (2024). In 2026, she'll direct and choreograph the revival of Dreamgirls.
  • With 2022's for colored girls..., Camille A. Brown became the first Black woman to direct and choreograph a Broadway play since Katherine Dunham in 1955.

Imagine a world where anything is possible: for individuals, for communities. A world of self-actualization, of Black Joy, of cultural liberation. A universe of new ways of being.

Five-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown created I AM with inspiration from an unlikely source: an episode of HBO’s acclaimed sci-fi/horror series Lovecraft Country. Exploring self-discovery, unlimited potential, and the power that comes from asserting who you are, Brown weaves a world of African diasporic dance styles together into a joyful whole.

Live original music provides the soundtrack for this energetic, spontaneous, immersive, and powerful work.

Experience a 2025 New York Times Critic's Pick that the Berkshire Edge called “good for the soul.”
