Castle of our Skins
featuring Boston Children’s Chorus

Salvation Army Kroc Center

Fast Facts

  • Recommended for ages 12 and up: longer works with poetic, abstract lyrics make this a bit more rigorous than most Neighborhood Arts events

Praised by the Boston Globe for their “ambitious hopes” that “seem right for a world that more often than not seems agonizingly divided,” Castle of our Skins celebrates more than a decade of championing Black artistry, past and present. Endlessly collaborative across disciplines, they are a longtime Neighborhood Arts partner organization, twice co-creating world premiere works in the Solo(s) Together commissioning project.

In this powerful program, the Castle of our Skins string quartet joins forces with the next-generation voices of Boston Children’s Chorus to explore our shared cultural connections. Derrick Skye’s American Mirror for string quartet and vocalists incorporates African, European, classical Indian, and American folk styles to define “classical music” for our time and place.

Experience two of Boston’s standout performing arts organizations in a program that celebrates the ties that unite us all.

“Castle of our Skins brings 'an endlessly curious and almost archaeological mind to [their] programming,'”
