Intertwined: An Afternoon of Gospejazzical 

Pianist and bandleader John Paul McGee makes his Celebrity Series concert debut with his Jazz Quartet. Dr. McGee and his band blend gospel, jazz, and classical music into an entertaining and uplifting style that he calls “Gospejazzical.” 

For his Doctor of Ministry dissertation, McGee considered the stress-relieving effect of this feel-good blend of musical styles on Pastors in Black churches, but we’d like to think it can bring joy to people in any walk of life. We invite you to lift your spirits with the John Paul McGee Jazz Quartet! 

Dr. McGee’s piano talent was revealed at just four years old; he began to play familiar hymns and church songs by ear, beginning a career that has always had a foundation in sacred music. His musical career has taken him around the globe as a keyboardist, vocal arranger, producer, and songwriter. He has worked with popular gospel and secular artists from Patti Labelle and The Isley Brothers to the Clark Sisters, the NFL Players Choir, VaShawn Mitchell, Kim Burrell, and Earnest Pugh.
