Due to popular demand, this performance is currently sold out. Simulcast options across the state are available! Yo-Yo Ma performs Bach’s suites for solo cello for the first time at home, in Boston. It’s music that he’s offered to communities on all six continents, in moments of joy and in times of tragedy; for him it exemplifies culture’s ability to bring us together, to create shared space for connection, reflection, and action.

Vocalist Zakiyyah is a Boston-based artist-activist who has performed for audiences at venues including the House of Blues, Symphony Hall, and, in a recent career highlight, at the United Nations. Her African Import program incorporates sounds from throughout the Black diaspora, from Hip-Hopera to R&B to Reggae.

Chicago’s Third Coast Percussion and dancer-choreographers Lil Buck and Jon Boogz (together known as Movement Art Is) began this project remotely during the COVID-19 lockdown, a time that gave a special resonance to ideas of shared human experience. The result is a groundbreaking collaboration that weaves contemporary percussion music with distinct and powerful dance styles. At its heart, the work dramatizes the growth, resilience, and self-expression of two young men, offering an intimate journey that is as thought-provoking as it is visually and musically compelling.

Théo Ould has revitalized the accordion’s place on the concert stage: performing iconic piano works in a different light, commissioning bold new pieces, and crafting programs that transport audiences across continents and centuries. In this program, he pays tribute to composer and bandoneonist Astor Piazzolla, pairing that composer’s works with his “obsessions,” inspirations, contemporaries, and current-day composers inspired by the tango master.
